The Latest Hyundai Kona Electric Unveiled: Offers 490 km Range and Two Battery Choices.

After showcasing the exterior and interior images of the new-generation Hyundai Kona Electric in December 2022, the automaker has now revealed the specifications of the Kona EV. In terms of mechanics, the second-generation Kona will be available with internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and all-electric powertrain options. Here are the comprehensive details.

The Hyundai Kona Electric will come equipped with two battery options: a 48.4 kWh and a 65.4 kWh. The standard 48.4 kWh battery offers a power output of 153 hp and a torque of 250 Nm, coupled with an electric motor. On the other hand, the long-range 65.4 kWh battery, paired with an electric motor, delivers 215 hp of power and 255 Nm of torque.

It's worth noting that the previous-generation Hyundai Kona EV utilized a smaller 39.2 kWh battery.

Hyundai hasn't disclosed the driving range for the standard-range model yet. However, the company mentions that the long-range Kona Electric is expected to provide a range of 490 km per charge according to the WLTP cycle. The latest Hyundai Kona Electric, from the new generation, supports one-pedal driving thanks to its regenerative braking system.

Taking design cues from the 2021 Hyundai Seven concept, the new-gen Kona Electric gets a sleeker-looking wraparound front light bar. The Kona EV gets pixel graphics exterior and sharp lines, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, as well as split LED headlamps.


In terms of size, the new-generation Kona is 150mm longer compared to its predecessor, which measured 4,355 mm. Additionally, it boasts a 60mm longer wheelbase and is 25mm wider than the previous-generation Hyundai Kona.


Turning to the interior, Hyundai has outfitted the new-generation Kona with dual 12.3-inch wraparound digital driver displays, akin to the Ioniq 5. Furthermore, it features a shift-by-wire gear selector positioned behind the steering wheel, creating additional storage space in the open console area.

When it comes to safety, the new-generation Kona Electric by Hyundai will come equipped with an 8-speaker Bose sound system, keyless entry, over-the-air updates (OTA), a heads-up display, connected car technology, and a powered tailgate. It will feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Blind-spot Collision Avoidance Assist, High Beam Assist, Lane-Keeping Assist, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.
