South Korea's Emergency Office Confirms Death of Actor Lee Sun-kyun

South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, known for his role in the Oscar-winning movie "Parasite," passed away, as confirmed by South Korea's emergency office on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. The actor was found deceased in a car at a park in central Seoul on the same day.


Earlier, the police had reported finding Lee unconscious at an undisclosed location in Seoul. Media outlets, including Yonhap news agency, disclosed that the authorities had been searching for the actor following a report from his family, who mentioned that he had left home after leaving a message resembling a suicide note earlier that day.


Earlier, South Korean police reported that the actor, Lee Sun-kyun, had been discovered unconscious at an undisclosed location in Seoul. However, they provided no additional details.

According to South Korean media, including Yonhap news agency, Lee was later found dead in a car at a park in Seoul. Reports suggested that police had been actively searching for him after his family reported that he left home, leaving behind a message resembling a suicide note earlier on the same Wednesday.


Yonhap further noted that a man, identified as Lee, was found unconscious at the Seoul park, and subsequent confirmation confirmed his death. The report mentioned the discovery of a charcoal briquette in the passenger seat of the car.


Lee Sun-kyun gained international acclaim for his role in the Oscar-winning film "Parasite," where he portrayed the head of a wealthy family. In 2021, he received a Screen Actors Guild award for his contribution to the film. Additionally, he was nominated for the best actor category at the International Emmy Awards for his role in the sci-fi thriller "Dr. Brain" the previous year.


Prior to his global recognition with "Parasite," Lee had a longstanding presence on Korean screens for decades. His career highlights included notable roles in popular dramas such as "Coffee Prince" (2007), "Behind The White Tower," "Pasta" (2010), and "My Mister" (2018).
