Fuel Shortage at Mumbai Petrol Pumps: Impact of Mumbai Truck Drivers' Strike: Currently, 50% of petrol pumps in Mumbai are experiencing a shortage. Despite citizens refilling petrol last night, there has been no stock refill today. Normally, around 1500 fuel supply trucks arrive daily, but as of now, not a single oil truck has reached Mumbai. The Petrol Dealers Association mentions cooperation from companies supplying petrol, although oil truck drivers are on strike. This situation may worsen by evening in Mumbai. In the Seawoods area of Mumbai, there is a gathering of truck drivers employed by oil companies. Over 300 truck drivers are currently on strike. In response, Mumbai police have increased their presence and arrangements at this time.

Government's Directive in Maharashtra: In response to the ongoing protests in Maharashtra, the state government has urged the police to ensure uninterrupted supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG cylinders, aiming to mitigate potential shortages. Officials have stated that the distribution of LPG cylinders in the market has been hindered due to the strike. Truck drivers participating in the strike, reportedly, are not reporting to the plants, causing disruptions in the distribution process.

What is the Opposition About?

In a widespread protest against the new traffic rules, the nationwide strike of transport unions and drivers entered its second day, causing disruptions in fuel supply. Long queues were seen at petrol pumps in various cities. Stringent penalties, especially targeting drivers involved in hit-and-run cases, have been imposed. Motorists involved in serious road accidents could face imprisonment of up to 10 years and hefty fines of up to 7 lakhs under this new law. The penalties are particularly aimed at individuals who leave the accident scene without reporting the incident to the authorities.
