When Rohit Shetty, along with co-director Sushwanth Prakash, brings forth a police series, buckle up for a thrilling journey packed with car chases, intense fight sequences, gripping drama, heroic exploits, powerful dialogues, and a pace that leaves you breathless.

The Prime Video series, 'Dhootha,' featuring Naga Chaitanya, offers a captivating mix of murder, revenge, and a ghost story, making the streaming debut an enticing experience with plenty of unexpected twists and turns.

This is Shetty's forte—delivering high-energy content. As the pioneer and sole Indian filmmaker to create a highly successful cop universe, there's immense anticipation surrounding the series, with a focus on main characters Kabir Malik (played by Sidharth Malhotra), Vikram Bakshi (portrayed by Vivek Oberoi), and Tara Shetty (enacted by Shilpa Shetty).

Growing the World of Exceptional Police Heroes

The series comes into existence due to the immense success of Shetty's expansive super cop world—a proven formula. Year after year, a new A-list actor joins the already impressive ensemble cast. Transforming this winning concept into a web series was a strategic move. However, 'Indian Police Force' takes a departure from Shetty's cinematic brands like Singham, Simba, and Sooryavanshi, leaning more towards the style of television shows such as Crime Patrol.

In an effort to distinguish the web series from his blockbuster movie franchise, the director adopts a different tone. This rendition delves deeper into drama, incorporates attempts at light humor, and even features romantic songs. Surprisingly, the expectation of intense action is met with only two action scenes in the final four episodes, both lacking car sequences. For those seeking high-octane action, the series reserves a supercharged finale episode with an abundance of car chaos—complete with crashing cars, fistfights, and shootouts.

What is the Storyline of the Series?

The series kicks off with a tragic event - a series of explosions rocking the Indian capital. The familiar formula unfolds: dedicated cop DCP Malik pursues the antagonist Zarar (played by Mayyank Taandon), who lacks a menacing presence. Certain scenes trigger memories of Anurag Kashyap's 'Black Friday' and Mani Ratnam's 'Dil Se' in terms of story, although not in storytelling style.

The storyline is straightforward - a wanted terrorist with Kabir, Tara, and Vikram hot on his heels. There is a sense of purpose, but the narrative lacks momentum. A cop is killed, another faces suspension for rule-breaking, and conflicts arise between superior and junior officers - a plotline we've encountered before.

Additionally, the series explores the transformation of a terrorist, revealing his double life and the impact on his family. This insight isn't a spoiler but rather a glimpse of what the audience can anticipate. This duality is both a blessing and a challenge for franchise content. A blessing because the established formula provides a foundation for the writers, and a curse because the audience expects a certain familiarity while still yearning to be captivated.

Ultimately, the burden lies on the writers to craft a gourmet dish in a realm of ordinary fare. Utilizing the same ingredients while introducing new elements, they must deliver an extraordinary experience for the franchise enthusiasts.

When Idealism Prevails Over Realism

Every one of Shetty's law enforcement officers in this series embodies the super cop archetype. Heroism consistently overshadows realism, creating a cop universe where there are no corrupt or flawed officers. These cops exhibit an extraordinary level of fearlessness, willingly handling bombs, navigating booby-trapped cars, and sprinting with bags of explosives away from crowds—each portrayed by a different actor in distinct scenes. Remarkably, they eschew bulletproof jackets and dive headfirst into gunfights, underscoring their exceptional and fearless nature.

The characters even find moments of calm domestic life. For example, Kabir experiences a scene of familial normalcy when his mom brings him lunch in the midst of an operation, urging him to share it with his colleagues. Another scene features Kabir's mother complimenting him on how good he looks in his uniform, suggesting he should wear it more often. These sentiments ring true, even though it's hard to ignore that almost everything lead actor Siddharth Malhotra wears on the show appears to be perfectly fitted. One might wonder how he manages to perform action scenes in such tight shirts. Setting that aside, Malhotra brings a certain calmness that translates into on-screen charisma. He could easily be enlisted to join the ranks of cops on the big screen in Shetty's next cinematic venture.

'Indian Police Force' boldly emphasizes its prioritization of style over substance through its polished action sequences, principled law enforcement characters, and a profound sense of duty and patriotism.
