Sushant Singh Rajput's sisters have consistently been strong supporters of the late actor. Since his passing in 2020, they have frequently expressed their support and shared cherished memories of their beloved brother. Shweta Singh Kirti, who resides in the US, recently penned a heartfelt tribute to Sushant in her latest book titled "Pain: A Portal to Enlightenment."
On Sushant's 38th birth anniversary, we look at what his sister wrote about him in her book:
The Day Sushant Came Into the World
In her book "Pain," Shweta revealed that her parents, following her birth, had a deep desire for a son due to the heartbreaking loss of her mother's first son at an early age. Shweta shared that family members often recounted how her parents longed for a son, leading to various rituals and spiritual journeys. Eventually, on January 12, 1986, Sushant, the much-awaited son, came into the world.
Our Journey of Growing Up Together
Shweta expressed a deep sense of protectiveness towards Sushant, as their mother believed that she played a crucial role in bringing him into their lives. Describing their upbringing, Shweta shared that they were inseparable companions, always by each other's side. They indulged in various activities together - playing, dancing, studying, getting into mischief, eating, and sleeping - so harmoniously that people often overlooked the fact that they were distinct individuals. Shweta mentioned in her writing that they were even given the collective nicknames 'Gudia-Gulshan,' treating them as if they were a single entity.
His Response When She Had Her First Period
Shweta reminisced about a moment from their past when, during her sixth-grade first period, their mother advised Sushant to be "gentle" with her as they used to playfully tease each other. In a heartfelt exchange, while discarding a pad, Sushant questioned his sister, saying, "What is it that you can't share with me? I don't like this barrier between us." Shweta highlighted that this incident showcased "his remarkable sensitivity and our profound closeness."
Her Wedding Day
"As I got ready to depart, my brother hugged me tightly, tears streaming down both our faces. It was a poignant moment – we understood that we wouldn't be sharing a living space anymore, and the luxury of frequent meetings would be a thing of the past," Shweta expressed in her writing. She openly acknowledged feeling regretful about leaving her brother behind as she moved to the US after getting married.
When Was the Last Time She Saw and Spoke to Him?
Shweta mentioned that due to Sushant's busy schedule and rapid success in Bollywood, he didn't get the chance to visit her. However, she made annual trips to India from 2014 to 2017 to see him. Unfortunately, she couldn't visit in 2018 and 2019. In January 2020, she made a special trip with the intention of meeting him, but it didn't materialize. Just four days before his tragic death on June 14, 2020, she had invited him to the US during a phone call.
Receiving the Heartbreaking News
Shweta shared that on the night of June 13 in the US, her husband was the one to deliver the devastating news. "A chill ran down my spine, and I lay in bed paralyzed. I didn't scream. I didn't cry. Through the strength of my coping mechanisms, I entered a state that absorbed all the shock my body and mind were experiencing," she wrote.
Not Having the Chance to See Him One Last Time
Shweta remembered that due to the unavailability of regular flights from the US to India during the COVID-19 pandemic, she managed to secure a ticket very late. Unfortunately, by the time she reached India, Sushant's body had already been cremated. "The realization that I would not be able to see him for the last time and bid him a proper farewell left me feeling angry and frustrated. There was no closure for me," she expressed. Shweta mentioned that the spiritual journey to come to terms with her brother's death is what inspired her to write her new book, "Pain: A Portal to Enlightenment."
