Tata Motors has officially introduced its latest electric SUV, the Tata Punch EV, in India, starting at a price of ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). The Punch EV is available in four distinct variants: Smart, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+, with the highest-tier variant priced at ₹14.49 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). Enthusiastic customers can secure their Punch EV by making a booking through Tata's dedicated EV dealerships or the official website, requiring a token payment of ₹21,000. Deliveries for the electric SUV are scheduled to kick off next month.
Tata Motors has now introduced its fourth electric vehicle, and interestingly, the Punch EV stands out as the second model offered in internal combustion engine (ICE), compressed natural gas (CNG), and fully-electric variants. After the Tigor, the Punch EV becomes Tata's second SUV to embrace electric power.
The Punch EV comes equipped with Tata's latest Gen-2 Pure EV platform named Acti.EV. This platform prioritizes safety with the use of high-strength materials while preserving the SUV's ground clearance at 190 mm and ramp-over angles. Although the SUV's dimensions remain consistent with its internal combustion engine (ICE) or compressed natural gas (CNG) counterparts, it now boasts a design reminiscent of the Nexon EV facelift. This design includes features like LED daytime running lights, sleek LED headlights, a closed grille, and updated 16-inch alloy designs.
One standout feature of the Punch EV is its unique "frunk," offering extra storage space beneath the hood with a capacity of 14 liters, in addition to the standard 366-liter boot space. This innovative addition makes the Punch EV the first electric car in India to feature a frunk, providing users with an added storage option beyond the conventional trunk space.
When it comes to the battery and range, Tata has introduced two options for the Punch EV: mid-range and long-range battery packs with capacities of 25kWh and 35kWh, respectively. These cutting-edge battery packs, tailored for the Gen-2 Pure EV platform, contribute to a roughly 10% improvement in the EV's overall range. Tata claims that the mid-range variant can cover up to 315 km on a single charge, while the long-range variant extends that range to an impressive 421 km without needing a recharge.
Moreover, the Punch EV offers flexibility with two charging options. Users can opt for a 7.2 kW fast home charger for convenient home charging. For those in a hurry, the EV is equipped to charge from 10% to 80% in less than an hour using 50 kW DC fast chargers. This ensures that users have efficient and versatile charging solutions to meet their specific needs.
When it comes to performance, the mid-range Punch EV variant packs a punch with 80 bhp of power and 114 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the long-range version offers an even more robust performance, delivering 120 bhp and an impressive 190 Nm of torque. This electric SUV exhibits impressive acceleration, going from 0 to 100 kmph in just 9.5 seconds, and it can achieve a top speed of 140 kmph. These performance features ensure a dynamic and responsive driving experience for users of both Punch EV variants.
The Punch EV is loaded with a plethora of features to enhance the driving experience. It boasts leatherette seats, front-row seat ventilation, an air purifier, and a sophisticated 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The digital instrument cluster adds a modern touch to the interior.
Moreover, the Punch EV comes with convenient features such as wireless charging, wireless connectivity for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera for improved visibility, blind spot monitoring to enhance safety, and a standard set of six airbags to ensure occupant protection. These features collectively contribute to making the Punch EV a well-equipped and technologically advanced electric SUV.
The Punch EV offers a stylish and diverse exterior palette with five dual-tone color options. These include Pristine White, Daytona Grey, Fearless Red, Seaweed Green, and Empowered Oxide. This variety of color choices allows customers to personalize their Punch EV and make a statement on the road.
