Rockstar Games Unveils Long-Awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer, Confirming Leaks and Announcing 2025 Release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Rockstar Games has, at last, unveiled the much-anticipated trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 on Tuesday, with an unexpected early release attributed to a supposed leak on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The trailer swiftly gained viral traction on YouTube, amassing over 11 million views within a mere two-hour window since its official posting on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel.
The GTA 6 trailer substantiates numerous leaks circulating about the open-world game. A subsequent press release from Rockstar Games disclosed that the game is slated to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S in 2025. However, there is no information regarding a PC release, leaving PC gaming enthusiasts disappointed.
Acknowledging the leaked trailer, Rockstar Games addressed the situation on X, stating, "Our trailer has leaked, so please watch the real thing on YouTube."
This trailer leak closely follows the viral circulation of a GTA 6 gameplay video on TikTok, offering a glimpse into the highly anticipated gameplay and map of the upcoming game, sparking excitement within the gaming community.
The GTA 6 trailer introduces Lucia, the series' first female protagonist, portrayed initially within the confines of a prison. As the trailer unfolds, Lucia and her boyfriend engage in Bonnie and Clyde-style heists in the vibrant backdrop of Vice City.
In an official statement, Rockstar Games revealed, "Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet."
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has forecasted that GTA 6 will generate $8 billion in net bookings by 2025, according to Bloomberg. Notably, the Grand Theft Auto series, originating in 1997, has achieved sales of over 400 million units to date, with the last installment released in 2013. The anticipation built over the more than decade-long gap between GTA 5 and GTA 6 has left the game's dedicated fanbase eagerly awaiting a glimpse of the new edition.
GTA 5 holds the position of the second best-selling video game of all time, with a global sales figure exceeding 190 million copies. It follows Microsoft's Minecraft, which has surpassed the milestone of 300 million copies sold, as reported by CNBC.
